Nazzareno Mataldi

Born in Ascoli Piceno, Italy, in 1966.

With a scientific education, I’ve been translating on a part-time basis since 1992, and as a professional freelance translator since 1998, with news reports, literary nonfiction and essays as my main focus.

I do translate into Italian from English, French and Spanish.

From 1996 to 2011, in particular, I worked for the renowned Italian weekly Internazionale, as well as for notable Italian cultural reviews such as Lettera internazionale, Telèma, Testo a Fronte and La Rivista dei Libri (this last one being, at the time, the Italian edition of The New York Review of Books).

In 2000, after attending an advanced course in literary translation, I began translating books as well. Since then, I’ve translated or co-translated over fourty titles, primarily nonfiction, but novels and short stories too, for Italian publishers such as Fazi, Luca Sossella, Baldini&Castoldi, minimum fax, Laterza, Alet, La Nuova Frontiera, Codice, and Hoepli.

Beside translating, I’ve gained a first-hand experience in proofreading and editing.

An avid reader of fiction and nonfiction books, as well as major international literary magazines, I have developed a special interest in American and Canadian writers. I am keen on discovering new voices and/or forgotten authors, so I also do some scouting for the publishers I work with.
